Susan Sanchez, MBA, MSIT
There is a collegiate fit for each one of us. But finding a way to feel both good about the process and satisfied with the outcomes sometimes requires a navigator. That’s me. I’ve had a unique background of experiences that enable me to support others on a journey to find their best collegiate fit. My experience is broad. I’ve worked globally helping students prepare for the GMAT and traversing graduate school admissions. Within the past three years, I’ve helped my two oldest sons navigate the undergraduate admissions and selection process; They were awarded over $1.1M in scholarships. In my professional roles, I’ve recruited and hired dozens of undergraduate and graduate students. I’m fascinated by the system and I relish the challenge of working through the gauntlet of admissions, scholarship hunting, and final college and university selection. I love helping families feel great about how the children present themselves throughout the process and about their final selection. I’m compelled to help others wading through the complexity of the admissions process and realize that my personal path has prepared me to help students and parents in their journey.
My focus is on admissibility, strategy, essay writing, supplemental requirements, and approaches to selection - all balanced with financial fit for your family. In South America, I taught GMAT prep to academically elite Venezuelans and guided through the MBA application processes. I attended graduate school at University of Maryland where I saw first hand the university’s candidate prioritization selection process.
I earned my MBA and MS IT there and have had a long career in Fortune 100 companies in the US and around the world. In some of these roles I recruited and hired undergraduate and graduate students. I have three boys and eventually came to be in the seat of helping them navigate the undergraduate admissions and selection process. My first two sons were awarded a significant number and amount of scholarships. While receiving admittance to many selective universities, they opted to attend The Ohio State University for fit, academic rigor, cultural diversity, and cost.
Most high schools do a great job helping the candidates start in the right direction, but academic counselors are often overwhelmed with work and don’t have enough one on one time to give that so many students need. I approach the challenge of college selection as a business woman wanting a strong ROI, but with the heart of a mother who understands the emotional roller coaster this process throws the students onto. Sometimes the kids, frankly, need a swift kick in the rear, and other times they need a hug. I’m likely going to burst some bubbles, but I’ll also be there to cheer them on throughout, and be ready when they need counsel to make tough decisions.
I have a great day job, but enjoy working with the collegiate candidates and their parents and would like to help on a broader spectrum. All sessions are in the evenings and weekends.
